History and Origin :
This variety of Basil was likely developed in India, where the plant is sacred and used for the worship of Vishnu and Krishna. Still today, its medicinal properties are very much valued by Indian health practitioners. The essential oil from this plant is known since the XIVth century. It came through to Europe and England from the Middle East with the first emigrants. The term “basil” would be derived from ancient Greek meaning “royal plant”, for the value the plant represented. The French name “basilic” and the use of the plant in cooking date back to the 13th century.

Good to know
Basil is known to enhance the growth rate and quality of tomato plants. Organic farmers often choose to plant it right at the foot of their tomato plants. Basil is also an aromatic that repels flies and mosquitoes. And when it’s blooming, it attracts bees, thus helping pollination of other plants.
Safety Data: The oil should be avoided in pregnant women and young children. It can be dermocaustic, so it is advised to test it on skin before use or to dilute it in vegetable oil.
Discharge: In case of health concern, Aliksir strongly recommends that you consult with a physician or aromatherapist. You must get accurate information concerning contraindications and interactions with other substances. Essential oils are powerful, and they must be used in respect of the physiological doses.
